Week 1
  • If you have passed the Hampshire Lodge in the last month I doubt if any of you thought that the new season would have kicked off on time but it did. So the first thanks of the season must go to Peter at the Hampshire and his team of builders who have done a great job.
  • The first Premier game of the season was a clash between the two newly promoted teams of Titons & Dolphins, or it should have been. Dolphins were a no show so points were awarded to Titons. The game between the Allsorts & Cobowlers was a close call with only 3 pins separating them in the end. Riva Irregulars and Lungy’s also had a close game and despite Jules Webb scoring a 49 Riva pulled it back to win by 4 pins.
  • In the first division Winners for the week were Topcrats, Clueless, Tecknocrats and Hotshots. Hotshots took no prisioners with a 48 pin win over UFO’s with Glenn MacFarlane scoring a great 46. Not surprisingly with an impressive 230 Hotshot take top position.
  • Wins for Chalkers, Sappers & P&Ds sees them occupy the top half of the table in the first week with Sappers getting the top team score of 208. In the game between Strikers and Les Pins Shaun Martel scored a 46 to give the Strikers a final score of 184. Les Pins should have claimed the points but with a miss totalled scorecard Strikers came away with the 2points.

Thursday, 3 September 2009

The Committee paid a visit to the Hampshire Lodge today and it's looking very good. The Leagues will start on time on Monday next week.

Peter has asked us to let you know about a couple of things.
  • Please DO NOT use the exit at the bottom end of the alley which has been screwed shut whilst the building works are still going on. Once the works are complete the screws will be removed and the door will be alarmed.
  • Parking is going to be an issue so please try and car share. Whilst the building work is going on Peter has offered free soft drinks for the designated driver of a shared motor that contains 4 or more people. Thanks Peter.
Lastly and most important have a great season

2008/9

Annual Killer

  • Despite a lower turn out than last season the Sarnia Skittles Annual Skittle ‘killer’ competition took place at the Hampshire Lodge with sufficient numbers to provide for an entertaining evening. The Competition that involves the simple process of players just having to knock down one or more skittles to stay in the contest was tougher than ever with many players being left with a single pin to knock down to avoid loosing one of their ‘five lives’. In the final stages (once Shaun ‘the trophy’s mine) Martel had been eliminated the main contenders were Amanda (lets hear it for the ladies) Jehan, Brian (bend it like becks) Keutzer, Barry (bungalow) Williams, Ali (muffin) McClean and brother Gary (r u missing something) McClean. Keutzer still on maximum lives followed Jehan and Williams out when a few curve balls shot wide of the mark leaving the McClean brothers to battle it out for the prestigious trophy. Both players are no strangers to ‘killer’, playing every week with a group of entheuastic skittlers and this led to an extended and very amusing final that eventually ended with Ali putting a ball through to loose his final ‘life’ leaving brother Gary with the winning smile …and that trophy

General KO

  • Three Premier and first Division sides vied for this seasons’ trophy. All games were a pleasure to referee and it was great to see Ron Le Tissier out of skittle retirement for Nurdlers. Ron certainly hadn’t lost his touch averaging 7’s over the two games they played.
In the first semi-final Gill Le Cras’ Guys N Dolls took on Nurdlers who sported three
generations of Le Tissier’s. Kevin produced an impressive 49 while Ron an ex Live Wires player (some of us remember them!) contributed a 36. Andy the acting captain on the night unfortunately suffered under the eye of the ref who called a no ball on a foot fault to Andy’s dismay when the ball took all nine pins down. However Jack Honeybill’s 39 and the remaining contributions from Andy Carre and Tony Courson provided the victory over their opponents who must have been practicing for the forthcoming ‘Killer’ competition (2nd May by the way). Five seemed to be the number they were happy with except Gary Le Page who made a brave effort with a 42.
The second semi-final had a similar feel to it when Lungys suffered a pin famine with the team averaging under 33 pins each against Hotshots who were true to their name. Glenn Macfarlene put down 46, John Jarvis 40, Derek Falla 39 and Tom Smith’s 37 the main contributions in their 31 pin victory.
Macfarlene and Falla maintained their form in the Final with 40 pins apiece with Andy Smith providing a 37 Nurdlers were always chasing the score. Andy Carre managed a 39 reply but with only a 30 pin average from the rest of the Nurdlers team Hotshots claimed a ten pin victory to become the General Knockout winners.

Divisional KO

  • Premier Division Knockout

  • Riva Irregulars were drawn against Guy N Dolls and Allsorts against Sporting Club in the Semi-Finals of the Premier Division Knockout. The first game featured the Wakeham brothers who have finished top of the Individual Averages in the Premier Division and made for friendly banter. Kevin on 37 fell three below his average on the night for Riva but Graham Dorey’s 37 and Paul Davies’ 40 was enough to counter brother Paul’s 39, two below his average, and Lyn Le Vallee’s 39 for Guys N Dolls to give Riva a 5 pin victory and a place in the final. The other semi was a none event when Premier League winners Sporting Club failed to show, so with apologies from Sporting’s captain Bruce Mansell Allsorts joined Riva in the final.
Unfortunately Allsorts final appearance was short lived as Riva were warmed up and produced a trophy winning performance – Paul Davis maintaining his accuracy with 46, Paul Bailey 44, Tim Eggerman and Kevin Wakeham on 40 with Graham Dorey and captain Brian Holden picking up the rest in their 237 to 215 victory. Mark Giles and Graham Domaille’s 38 were the highest replies for Allsorts who would have been convincing winners if the results went on the number of ‘through balls’!

  • First Division Knockout Teknocrats took on Hotshots in the first semi-final that saw Colin Veron put in a 45 however Glenn Macfarlene was on form too and bettered by scoring a 48and with team-mate Andy Smith contributing a 42 Hotshots had a 15 pin victory. Geoff Browning’s and Louise Coulson’s spares were enough to see Sappers take the second semi-final by just one pin over Clippers.
On league positions Hotshots were favourites but going into the last hand Sappers were ahead. Browning stepped up and found the gaps between the pins and eventually left Sappers anchorman Guilbert needing a spare, which was on the cards when his ball left a possible clearance. However it wasn’t to be and despite a 44 from Guilbert and a 40 from Harrison Sappers was defeated by 6 pins to give Hotshots the trophy.

  • Second Division Knockout P&D’s and Strikers slugged it out in the second division semi final in fact it was painful to watch – so many balls going through – it remained low scoring throughout the game. Strikers resigned to defeat when P&D’s required 10 off their last three players. However skittles is a ‘funny ol’ game’ – I wont name and shame but Strikers won by five pins! The other Semi saw the Wild Hogs show 66 Missfits a clean pair of wheels with a 25pin victory. Dan Troalic and Tim Prevel contributing 44 each for the Hogs with a 39 from Mac Timms and 38 from Martin Lowe being the best reply from the misfits.
Wild Hogs then accelerated in the final against Strikers. Ally McClean 46 and Shaun Martel 42 certainly upped their game for Strikers but it wasn’t enough against the best ‘barrackers’ in the league – with Troalic’s 48 and an average of 36 from the rest of the team Wild Hogs claimed the trophy by nine pins.

End of Season Table

  • In an exciting climax to the Sarnia Skittles Club season a team suffered relegation through an incorrect card and two leagues were decided by drawn matches.
Sporting Club claimed the Premier League Championship by three points over Cobowlers as a result of a three pin victory over Lungys Legends. Chris Riddle contributed a 41 and Andy Le Maitre a 40 for Sporting Club with only anchor Phil Trouteaud’s 41 making an impression for Lungys. Cobowlers had claimed second place the week before but third place was eagerly contested by Riva Irregulars and Guys N Dolls. Riva I defeated Johnnie Walkers, who finish bottom of the division, by five points mainly due to a 56 from Carl Holden in only his fourth game of the season. Opposite number Martin De La Haye managed a 41 in reply Johnnie Walkers. Nurdlers having beated Guys N Dolls in one game then conceded their outstanding game with them placing Guys N Dolls on equal points with Riva however Riva claim third place by Pin count. Paul Wakeham showed why he is top the averages with yet another score in the 40’s but Alan Le Tocq’s 44 gave Nurdlers the three pin victory. With only Johnnie Walkers certain of relegation going into the final week Otts, Allsorts and Lungys Legends were all desperate for a win. Lungys had the hardest task having an outstanding game against the league champions Sporting Club but managed a five victory to place them clear of relegation. The other game couldn’t have been more decisive – OTT’s against rivals Allsorts. Simon French got Allsorts but it was matched by Dave Barsby for OTT’s and with an average of 36 from the remaining players Otts should have won by four pins but failed to complete the team total on the score card and thus Rule 2f gave the points to Allsorts.

  • Dolphins made sure of the Second Division title with a forty pin victory over Les Pins. Shaun Sarre finished the campaign with a 48, Dave Allen a 45 and Len Hall a 43 for Dolphins which may have inspired Dave Collenette to get 45 for the opposition. Main rivals Titons were on equal points with Dolphins going into the final week and were preparing for a play off for the title however a draw against Clueless left them one point short. Martin Vidamour’s 42 contributed to 214 pin draw. Colin Veron’s 42 helped Teknocrats maintain third place with a 16 pin win over UFO’s and Hotshots remain fourth also defeating their opposition by 16 pins. Glenn Macfarlene prepared himself for the divisional knockouts with a 46 and Andy Smith contributed a 42 in the defeat that saw Sappers finish bottom of the division.

  • Going into the final week the second division looked sewn up eight points clear of Wild Hogs and Topcrats Longshots looked dead cert for the title but outstanding games had Topcrats chasing for the title - and Longshot’s Scott Wellbourne pacing in bar after Longshot’s defeat by P & D’s. With four outstanding games Topcrats could cause a playoff for the title. They completed the league programme with a win over Motorollers, Tony Weaver providing a 43 in that win. This was followed by a fourteen pin victory again against Motorollers, then a thirteen pin win over Red Devils leaving just two games against Potentials. The first encounter proved to be the decisive one Lee Sarahs’s 42 was cancelled out by E. Thomas’s 42 but when Laura Harris put in her highest score of the season of 41 it earned Potentials a draw. Topcrats won the remaining game giving them a well-deserved second place and promotion to the First Division next season.
Wild Hogs were defeated by Red Devils, Dave Sheppard’s 45 earning a concelation two points from a 2 pin win. 66 Missfits finish third in the table with their fourteen pin win over a 5 player Chalkers team and Strikers beat Potentials in a mid table clash.

Mens 4-A-Side KO

  • The Mens 4 a side produced some excellent games leading to the quarter finals in which Longshots gave a good account of themselves against Titons A, mainly due to a 40 by Danny Carre’. Loosing by only 6 pins to a team who gained promotion to the Premier League this season Longshots can be proud of the result. Gary Le Page racked up a 47 in Guys win over Riva Irregulars to move to a semi-final place. Lungys captain Phil Trouteaud had a 51 and together with Tim Pond’s 40 put paid to Titons B Team chance of meeting their A team in the Semi’s. John Teed’s 42 being the best reply from the opponents. In the remaining quarter final Nurdlers cruised to a convincing victory over Allsorts.
The Semi-finals provided for two of the best games of the competition with both games being decided by one pin. Nurdlers average of 37 per player with a top score of 40 by Marceau Curry was just enough to see the departure of Guys despite a 41 from Paul Wakeham. The other Semi saw Lungys Legends leading until the final hand when it was left for the anchor needing a nine and despite Phil Trouteaud having an excellent evening he suffered a seven.
So it was Titons A of the first division against Premier team Nurdlers in the final. Titons pulled out the highest score of the evening 161 with Andy Carre’ and Danny Carre’ proving a 44 and 43 respectivly against a Nurdlers side that ended their chances with their lowest score of the night finishing 23 pins behind.
Congratulations go to Titons A consisting of Bob, Ian, Andy and Danny Carre’ who become this seasons Mens 4 a side Champions.

Week 27

  • Officially the final week of the season and Sporting Club have retained their top spot with their win over Lungys Legends. Chris Riddle and Andy Le Maitre scored in the 40’s with Phil Trouteaud’s 41 the only reply from Lungys. Lungys then played Sporting Club again in a rearranged fixture. Lungys had an uphill struggle in a must win game to avoid relegation that they achieved with a narrow five-pin victory. Points were shared in the two games between Nurdlers and Guys N Dolls. Alan Le Tocq’s 44 and Paul Wakeham’s 42 being the highest scores of the respective teams in the first game and Nurdlers conceded the second game to leave no change in their table positions.

  • The 1st Division was a hard fought contest with Titons and Dolphins going into the final week on equal points. Dolphins however made no mistake of a victory with their 40 pin win over Les Pins. Shaun Sarre’s 48, Dave Allen’s 45 and Len Hall’s 43 secured the win to give them the title following Titons draw with Clueless who had Cole Osborne’s 44 and Matin Vidamour’s 42 to thank for their win. Colin Veron put in a 42 to give Teknocrats a win over UFO’s giving them third place just two points behind Titons. Sappers confirmed their relegation spot with a defeat by Hotshots. Glen Macfarlene maintained his form with a 46 and fellow player AndySmith’s 42 sealed it for Hotshots. Les Pins will join Sappers in the ‘drop’.

  • Only five out ten teams have completed their fixtures so far so there are still changes to be seen in the final standings in the second division. However second placed Wild Hogs were defeated by Red Devils and fdrop to fourth place, Dave Sheppard the anchor with a 45 clinched the two pins victory. Tony Weaver hit a 43 to help Topcrats move into second place with their win over Motorollers and with four games outstanding look certain of promotion along with Longshots who have an eight point lead at the top of the table. And finally, 66 Missfits had a low key victory over a Chalker team reduced to five players with Colin Fookes’ 36 being the highest score of the game.

Mixed Pairs

  • Sixteen couples competed for this seasons Mixed Pairs crown. After two preliminary rounds the quarter finals featured Gerry and Barry Williams beating Jo and Phil Trouteaud; Vicky and John Dodd beating Pat and Ian Barker; Ann and Jeff Vidamour beating Rachel Burnard and Chris Sharp and Loise Coulson and Shaun Martel beating Michelle De Carteret and Gary Le Page.
In the Semi finals the Coulson Martel pair took on the Dodds with Martel ‘sparing’ giving an uphill struggle for the opponents who resigned themselves to look forward to next years competition. The Vidamours met the relatively new players’ Gerry and Barry Williams who found their weekly ‘Killer’ play really paid off. A zero had the Vidamour pair struggling from the outset but consistant scoring from the Williams pair gave them a well deserved victory.
The final turned out one sided with the victors not having to play their last hand. Despite a vallant effort from the Williams Pair it was Louise Coulson’s turn to ‘spare’ and with Martels consistant play this seasons honours went to Louise Coulson and Shaun Martel.

Week 25

  • Alex Mauger threw a superb 62 for Coblowlers in the top of the table clash with Sporting Club. Mauger’s score was backed by a 42 from Dave McNab and 41 from Keith Batiste to give Cobowlers a 30 pin victory. Sporting Club remain top of the division though by two points with a two game advantage over their rivals. High scores were recorded Phil Trouteaud 50 and Dave Heaume 47 for Lungys Legends in the their win over OTT’s with Dave Barsby’s 51 being the highest score of the game. Martin De La Haye’s 45 and Adrian Le Sauvage’s 40 helped Johnnie Walkers to victory over fourth place Guys N Dolls.

  • The promotion battle is hotting up in the first division. Dolphins remain top their win over Clueless. A 47 from Dave Allen and 41 apiece from Sean Sarre and Brian Brehaut left their opponents really clueless in a fifty pin victory. Titons move into second place following their win over Sappers and Teknocrats loosing to Clippers who are fighting their way out of the relegation zone. Keith Sexton threw a 48 and team mate Bob Ozanne a 42 to help UFO’s move one point above their opponents Hotshots.

  • A result card error saw Division Two leaders Longshots drop two points allowing their opponents Topcrats to retain fourth place. Wild Hogs picked up four points from two games to move into second place. In a rearranged game against Chalkers Pete Hamon’s 44 helped them to victory and despite a 42 from Ally McClean the Hogs sqeezed a 7 pin win over Strikers.Wild Hogs are now one point ahead of 66 Missfits who beat Red Devils. John Allen threw a 47 for the Missfits with Dave Sheppard’s 41 being the best reply for the Devils. Motorollers drop a place after loosing to Potentials and Chalkers move one point above them following their win over P & D’s.

Ladies 4-A-Side KO

  • Despite the poor turn out the Sarnia Skittles Ladies Four –a –side provided an entertaining evening. The competition saw The Dolls from the Premier Division, the Clippers of the First Division and P & D’s and Motorollers of the Second Division compete for this season honours. In the first Semi final Motorollers were drawn against P & D’s with Tina Browning topping the scoring of both sides with a 36. Both sides were convinced that either the skittles were set further apart or the balls had been made smaller as one after the other ‘through balls’ went sailing past the pins with Motorollers averaging a low 26. P & D’s did a little better averaging 31 to give them a place in the final.
The Other semi-final however did provide some ‘spares’ as Clippers took on The Dolls. Pat Barker of Clippers topped the scoring with a 38 and helped her team into a seven pin lead on the penultimate hand but their final hand left the door open for The Dolls who didn’t disappoint as Gill Le Cras and Michelle De Carteret both put in a 37 giving the dolls overall victory by six pins.
The Final between P & D’s and The Dolls was entertaining in as much the cheers rang out on each miss by both sides – and lets just say there was a lot of cheering! – The Dolls rallied to a 33 pin average which was two better than P & D’s to The Dolls the title for a fifth time.

Week 22

  • Sporting Club stay two points clear of Guys N Dolls to retain top spot of the Premier League with their win over Johnnie Walkers. Guys N Dolls managed two 19 pin victories on the same night. Paul Wakeham riding on his success in the Mens Individual put in a 43 in their win over Lungys Legends and his team had more spirit than Johnnie Walkers as Ian Le Vallee hit a 46, Gary Robilliard hit a 44 and Wakeham a 41 to them a 19 victory. Top team clash Riva Irregulars verses Cobowlers was a thriller, Kevin Wakeham provided a 51 while Graham Dorey followed with a 42 but their total was two short of the 238 by Cobowlers. Karl Bisson and David McNabb both hitting a 48 in their victory. Peter Fustic’s 40 and George Le Ray’s 42 helped Ott’s to a much needed win over Nurdlers.

  • Dave Allen led the way with a 44 for Dolphins against Sappers who now rest at the foot of the Fisrt Division. John Teed did one better with a 45 to help Titons to a massive 52 pin win over UFO’s. Teknocrats remain third with a 45 from Colin Veron and 42 from Steve Williams to give them a 35 pin win over Les Pins in a ‘catch-up’ game and Les Pins also lost to Clueless who climb one point clear of the two relegation teams. Clippers gained vital points against fourth placed Hotshots despite a 43 from Tom Smith.

  • Longshots were short on their total as Potentials took a scalp off the runaway league leaders in the Second Division. 66 Missfits’ victory over Wild Hogs meant the teams changed places with the Hogs dropping to third. Martin Troalic scored well with a44 for Wild Hogs with the best reply from Chris Pipet for Missfits. Strikers move up two places with their win over Motorollers and Claire Douglas’s 42 helped Strikers to secure another victory over Red Devils in a re-arranged game.

Mens Individual KO

  • The Sarnia Skittles Club Men’s Individual Knockout involved four hours of play at the Hampshire Lodge. Title Holder and main contender for quite a few seasons had a surprising defeat in the first round loosing to Geoff Browning. Browning then fought hard in the quarter final against relatively new-comer and fellow Sapper Ashley Harrison to make a semi final spot. Brian Holden, after a narrow victory over Ian Barker in the Preliminary round took on Barkers Clipper colleague John Dodd which again went to wire to Holden’s advantage. Holden kept his nerve in the quarter final against a new Lungys Legends player Wayne Coutanche. Experience showed although Holden had a few nervous moments but victory gave him a semi final placeagainst Gary Le Page. Le Page had gained his semi final place by defeating Clipper Jeff Vidamour in the preliminary round, club president Jeff Guilbert in the first round and Lungys Phil Trouteaud in the quarter final. The remaining semi final place went to fellow Guys N Dolls player Paul Wakeham who had beaten Ali McClean, Brian Keutzer and fellow team member Gary Robilliard. Wakeham who had a magnificent 58 in the teams league match the week before, continued his run of spares against Browning for a place in the final which may well have been against his team mate Le Page had it not been for steady and consistent play from Holden to give him the finalist place. After four hours of competitive play Wakeham made short work of the final. Despite Holden starting with a spare in the first hand Wakeham came back taking the next three Hands in the best of five hand final to become this seasons Men’s Individual Champion.

Week 21

  • Sporting Club remain top of the Premier League with their win over second place Nurdlers who also suffered a defeat against Riva Irregulars to drop three places. Despite Nurdlers’ Tony Courson and Andy Carre’ getting 44 and 40 respectively, steady play from Sporting Cub topped by a 44 from Andy Le Maitre gave them the victory. Jez Thomas put in a 43 for Nurdlers in the ‘catch-up’ game only to be dashed by a 48 by Paul Bailey to give Riva Irregulars the victory. Guys n Dolls move into second place helped by Paul Wakeham,s magnificent 58 (and that was with a 6 in the fifth hand). Opponents Allsorts battled hard with a 47 from John Domaille and 42 from Simon Goodwin to no avail leaving them on 12 points in the relegation zone. Riva Irregulars had a good week getting four points from three games moving into third place. Captain Brian Holden’s 40 being cancelled out by Owen Allen in their victory over Johnnie Walkers. Cobowlers join the other two teams in equal third following a 48 from Alex Mauger.

  • Dolphiins and Titons both had victories so Dolphins remain two point clear at top of the First Division although Titons have a game in hand. Dave Allen struck a 48 against Hotshots backed by a 41 from Dave Creber and ‘Curly’ Le Maitre. John Jarvis also replied with a 41 for Hotshotsthat gave a 221 total ten short of Dolphins score. Titons’ John Teed put in a long awaited best of 46 and Ian Carre followed with a 40 to give Titons a eight pin victory over Clueless despite a 43 from Darren Lilley and a 42 from Captain John Tracey. However bottom of the table Clueless gained some vital points against Clippers. Clipper Martyn Keutzer’s 42 being equalled by Carl Armitage left the remainder of the Clueless team to edge a three pin victory.

  • Now a whole twelve points clear in the Second Division (is this a record?) Longshots strolled to a 21 pin victory over Chalkers while second place Wild Hogs lost their way a little. Hog Tim Prevel and Topcrat Peter Tidd both heading their respective team scores with 41. 66 Missfits move one point behind Wild Hogs with their win over Strikers, Mike Weysom’s 41 being the games highest score. With a sudden change in fortune Potentials gain a win and with it another place moving into fourth following their victory over P&D’s and Red Devils had one of their rare victories over Motorollers to move just one point behind P&D’s.

Week 20

  • Sporting Club stay top of the Premier League with a win over Riva Irregulars, Andy Le Maitre’s 43 anchor play was decisive in their eight pin victory. Second place Nurdlers took advantage of a ‘catch up’ game to gather another two points taking them to two points behind the leaders with two games in hand. Steady play with a top game score of 42 for captain Alan Le Tocq helped in the sixteen victory over Cobowlers who had a thrilling one pin victory over Guys N Dolls earlier in the evening. Andy Bodsworth 45 and Keith Batiste gave a good innings for Cobowlers while Paul Wakeham’s 48 and Gill Le Cras’s 40 were the best performers for Guys N Dolls. Both bottom teams gained vital points. Allsorts with the help of Simon French’s 49 and Ian Domaille’s 46 secured a win over Lungys Legends, Adam Hyland 42 and Phil Trouteaud’s 40 were the best replies and OTT’s John Sargent’s 45 and Peter Fustic’s 40 nailed a win over Johnnie Walkers with the De La Haye brothers keeping their teams spirits up with scores over 40 for Johnnie Walkers.

  • In the First Division Dolphins are riding the crest of the wave with a 27 pin win over UFO’s, while hot on their tails Titons dropped a point against Clippers. Third Place Teknocrats took on fourth place Hotshots, Glen Macfarlene put in another score over 40 for Hotshots but it wasn’t enough against a very impressive 49 by Colin Veron and only equalled Geoff Harrison’s 41. Les pins stay in the relegation zone but their win over Sappers put them on equal point as their opponents. Dave Collenette’s 41 being decisive in their three pin victory.

  • Longshots move 10 points clear at the top of Division 2. Scott Welbourne’s 43 and Gary McClean’s 41 were the highlights in their 39 pin roasting of second place Wild Hogs. 66 Missfits dropped a vital 2 points loosing to Potentials, Missfits captain Mac Timms on 41 the highest in a low scoring game while Motorollers grabbed 2 point against Chalkers to place equal third with the 66 Missfits. Topcrat Dave Nettleship put in a useful 46 in their victory over P & D’s and Shaun Martel put in the divisions top score of the week with a 50 against Red Devils. Team-mate Ally McClean also struck a 46 to give a 42 pin victory.

Week 19

  • Sporting club stay top with their win over Allsorts. Chris Riddle’s 42 was cancelled out by Graham Domaille’s 41 leaving the others to battle it out for Sporting’s 4 pin victory. Guys N Dolls move into second place with their victory over OTT’s helped by a couple of 42’s by Gill Le Cras and Paul Wakeham.
Titons move to within a point of the top spot with a game in hand with their win over Les Pins. A 47 from captain and anchor man Bob Carre the needle in the Pins loss. Teknocrats stay third with their victory over Sappers and Hotshots remain fourth beating Clueless. Glenn Macfarlene continued his form with 45 and a 43 from Tom Smith sealed it for Hotshots with Andy Gavey’s 42 the nearest reply for the opposition. Clippers secured a win over UFO’s with a brilliant 53 from Ian Barker backed by a 44 from Brian Keutzer and a 42 from John Dodd to move them out of the relegation spot.
Longshots claimed another victory this time against 66 missfits who weren’t firing on all cylinders – but the banter was good! – Wild Hogs dropped a point with a draw with Potentials. Natalie Carre had the most potential with a 48 while a more consistent team effort topped by a 40 from Dan Troalic left Tim Prevel to secure the draw. Chris Bentley’s 42 helped Chalkers in their win over Red Devils while P & D’s Keith Le Prevost’s 41 and Roger Wymer’s 40 saw off Motorollers. Similar scores from Peter Tidd 41 and Phil Sebire 40 helped Topcrats maintain their league position.
The outstanding General Knockout game Dolphins verses Hotshots was a corker. Living up to their name 43’s from John Jarvis and Glenn Macfarlene had Hotshots on 229, Dolphins gave a brave fight with Brian Brehaut netting a 53 but overall left Hotshots with a 3 pins victory.

Week 18

  • Rule 1A played its part this week with adverse weather condition causing disruption to the fixtures on Monday and only one game on Tuesday although I’m sure there would have been a few shouts of (s)no’ball! OK on to the games …. With only OTT’s and Allsorts playing there was little change in the Premier Division. Graham Domaille was the highest scorer with 47 with George Le Ray replying with a 44 for OTT’s.
Tuesday had Dolphins and Les Pins braving the icy conditions and scoring 238 Dolphins kept their opponents warm by picking up pins. Brian Brehaut 47, Len Hall 46 and Sean Sarre’s 40 could only be matched by Brian Queru’s 51 for Les Pins. Colin Vreon also matched the 51 for Teknocrats in their win over UFO’s on the Wednesday with backing fron Sim Wakeford on 41. In the only other First Division game Sappers lost to Hotshots, who climb a place, despite a 43 from club president Jeff Guilbert and a 42 from Brian Rouxel for Sappers.
Longshots knocked up another win with a useful 43 from Scott Phillips and a 40 from Scott Welbourne. Nigel Massey’s 45 for their opponents P & D’s was the highest Division 2 score of the week. Red Devils celebrated when second place Wild hogs could’nt kick start themselves into action. Steve Le Goupillot putting in a 44 for the Devils. 66 Missfits move into third place with their win over Chalkers owing to Motorollers having their game postponed.

Well done and thanks to all teams that promptly rearranged their games and kindly let me know during the inclement weather.

General KO round 2 and Ladies KO

  • General KO Round Two

  • Monday saw wins by Guys N Dolls, Johnnie Walkers, and Nurdlers and Sporting Club. Guys Paul Wakeham 44 and Gary Robilliard 43 helped their team to a 19 pin victory. Johnnie Walker Rod Gallienne’s 41 was best of a low scoring game with Striker Barry Williams 38 being the nearest rival. Nurdlers Marceau Curry’s 42 was cancelled out by Allsort John Domaille but Nurdlers rallied to win by 10 Pins and the game of the night Premiers Sporting Club took on Second division Longshots. Although individual score weren’t on the scorecard Sporting Club must have sweating as only 9 pins separated the teams.
Tuesday victories by Lungys Legends, 66 Missfits, Dolphins and Hotshots moved them forward into the next round. Lungys skipper Phil Trouteaud found the shots legends are made of breaking the 50 barrier with a 51, team-mate Dave Heaume’s 45 also making it difficult for their second division opposition Motorollers of which Gerry Williams did two better than Striker Barry with a 40. Dolphins managed a 14-pin win over UFO’s mainly by a 40 from captain Dave Allen and Shaun Sarre. Nurdler captain Alan Le Tocq’s 43 and a Marceau Curry 40 saw off the Sporting Club opposition while Lungys’ Paul Chapman knocked up the second highest score of the week with a 48 and with Dave Heaume 41 and Phil Trouteaud 39 the 66 Miffits for riding for the hills.

  • Ladies KO

  • Friday saw a fun evening with a few surprises not least with my very own wife now having the bragging rights when it comes to skittles. Due to the numbers a preliminary round was held and victories by evening organiser Tina Browning over Gill Mc Clean, Vicky Dodd over Esme Legg and Sandy Keutzer over Daphne Niles for the three into the quarter finals.
In the quarter finals Pat Barker beat Claire Douglas after an extra hand Vicky Dodd came from behind to beat Helene’ Geall, Wyn Le Feuvre lost to Tina Browning and Sandy Keutzer had a win over fellow Clipper Ann Vidamour after some excellent bowling from both ladies.
The semi final guaranteed a Clipper in the Final with Sandy, Pat and Vicky vying for a place with our very own Tina filling the other place. Sandy once again drew the short straw having to play teammate Pat while Tina took on a previous Ladies Champion Vicky. Tina narrowly lost out to Vicky who pulled out some good shots while Sandy won in straight sets to reach the final for the first time. Sandy’s consistent play all evening proved the decisive ingredient by further eights and nines to claim the title. So this season’s Ladies Individual Champion is Sandy Keutzer of Clippers.
A big thank-you on behalf of the ladies goes to the supporters who provided the man power in picking up the pins all evening who due to the impeccable organising by Tina were only allowed one break!

Week 16

Alan Le Tocq and Marceau Curry threw good 46’s for Nurdlers while opponents had all-sorts of scores but none sweet enough to match the former. Lungys Legends move above Allsorts after beating OTT’s. Dave Heaume and Paul Chapman on 43 helping in the win. A good high scoring game put Sporting Club into third place with Cobowlers dropping a place. Motorollers stay in third place despite loosing to Potentials who move up a place and 66 Missfits move into fourth helped by a Chris Pipet 41.

Simon Wakeford of Teknocrats hit a 52 and mention in dispatches must go to Sapper Colin Tostevin who having scored a 48 against Clueless came back the following night and scored 47 in Sappers rescheduled game against Hotshots and I’m led to believe one hand consisted of a duck with first ball and 18 with the other two! Simon Goodwin of Allsorts topped the dozen high scores in the Premier Division with a 48.

  • Guys N Dolls move to top spot by one point over Nurdlers who maintain second place with their win over Johnnie Walkers. Sporting Club drop to third after their defeat by Guys N Dolls and are joined on 14 Points by Johnnie Walkers.

Curly Le Maitre proved a better shot than a Sapper, his 45 saw Dolphins with another win and two games in hand. In the bottom of the table clash Clueless managed to leapfrog Les Pins with their 14 pin victory.

  • Longshots picked up a draw against Potentials and are now five points clear at the top of Division Two. Chris Bentley’s 45 helped Chalkers secure their win against third place Topcrats. Teknocrats dropped to third after being defeated by Les Pins, Dave Collenette and Brian Queru’s 44’s edging out Colin Veron’s 41 and Phil Roussell’s 38. Mid table clash Dolphins versus Hot Shots resulted in a 10 pin victory to Hot Shots although Dolphin’s do have a game in hand and a week after beating them in the divisional knockout Clippers anchor Martyn Keutzer clinched their victory by 1 pin.

  • There is no change in 1st and 2nd positions despite Longshots and Wild Hogs both loosing, however Wild Hogs opponents Topcrats, helped by Dave Nettleship’s 40 move into 3rd place and Longshots opponents Chalkers 2 pin victory puts them into equal 4th place. Motorollers move into third place with their 26 pin win over Chalkers while Strikers whose game was postponed drop a place to fourth.
